Ballet Exercises - Turnout
Hello, (:
At the moment my new thing I want to focus on is turnout, but I cannot find any turnout excercises aside from frogs legs and put your legs in second, same old boring stuff! Do you have any effective turnout excercises? Thankyou! XX

Ballet Exercises - Turnout
Hello,
Thank you for contacting me, it is great to hear from you.
I am encouraged to see you have a new, clear focus as it is a great benefit to have this sense of work ethic as a dancer.
I understand you must want new exercises to help you turnout, as it must get a bit dreary being always told the same stuff for turnout. I may not be able to give you many specific physical exercises, but I can tell you a great mental benefit which you can apply towards your technique.
Always remember, turn out initiates from the backs on the legs (glutes) and the top of the thighs. So, during all your ballet classes, you want to feel each movement initiating from the glutes as this is the place that will sustain your turn out. If you think attentively like this, so all your turnout movements begins from your glute muscles, then you can start to feel the sensation of how to control your turnout. As it is much about control and applying the right methods in ballet technique as well as having the great physical ability.
Therefore, you want to work on ballet exercises to strengthen your glutes and leg muscles. There are some great pilates exercise which target this area. Once you have more strength in your leg muscles, it will enable you to maintain your turn out easier. Although it's may seem dull, frogs can open the hips and loosen up the turn out so keep practicing this too.
Best Wishes,
Odette

To make your turn out easier you could work on ballet exercises to strengthen your glutes and legs. There are some great pilates exercise which target this area. Once you have more strength in your leg muscles, it will enable you to maintain your turn out easier.
Another great exercise is to sit in frogs and gently ease the legs into the position. This should open the hips and loosen up the turn out.
All the best,
