Career Development Plan - Am I Just Dreaming?
For years I've always wanted to be a ballerina. Unfortunately, I've never taken a dance class due to some issues with money as well as that I have a disease called ehlers-danlos syndrome. It effects my joints and makes them overly elastic. At times my joints dislocate and it makes some physical activity difficult. I have recently began physical therapy to relieve this issue. Do you think it would be sensible for me to begin taking a dance class once I have made progress with my joints? I'm only sixteen years old and I really want to accomplish this goal in my life. Am I just being unrealistic or is this something worth pursuing?
Love,
Kelsey

Hello Kelsey,
Thank you so much for contacting me, it is always a pleasure.
I am truly inspired by your encouraging attitude to deal with the issues we are faced with in life. How inspiring that, despite having ehlers-danlos syndrome, you do not loose sight of your goals.
Whether it is sensible for you to be taking dance classes, perhaps you should ask your doctor for a more medical approach. However, I do know that dances classes are valuable to both the mind and the body. Ballet will will benefit your co-ordination, posture, flexibility and your general health and well-being. Therefore, it can have only positive effects and may even help strengthen your joints.
You are not being unrealistic as we all should give ourselves the chance to pursue our dreams. If this is the one goal you want to accomplish in your life, then I say go for it.
Remember this quote:
"It does not matter how slow you go, as long as you don't stop."
Meaning, even if it takes what seems forever to build the strength or improvement for ballet, every little counts and each class will be contributing to fulfilling your goal.
Take a look at my Seven Secrets, which will not only give you the answers of how to thrive in the ballet world, but also the key with how to succeed in life as a whole.
All the best,
Odette
