Career Development Plan - Ballet Exams and Becoming a Professional
Hi odette my name is Kennedy im 13 and live in Canada my dream has never been to dance on a stage and earn money but my ballet teacher is pushing me to take my professional exam. I have no clue if dancing professionally and my exam go together but I will still tell you my story. I have spent most of my life in a studio or at home but when I'm at school I'm constantly picked for my height. I know I'm short but that doesn't mean that it's some sort of disorder. Jr. High doesn't help you follow your dreams you sit in a class and learn to teach but I want to be in the studio dancing. But marley ( ballet coach) told me I need minimal work and can be a pro I have no clue if it's true but for the past few years my grade exams have been top marks. Well odette thanks for listening if you have any tips please reply!

Hi Kennedy,
Thanks for your message, it's good to hear about you and your dancing story. When I was you younger, I took lots of ballet exams too before I knew I would taking dancing professionally. I think it helped my discipline and ability to keep learning, so exams can be very beneficial for you even if you don't realise it at the time.
If you want to become a professional, your training is crucial as a dancer. If you find a place that believes in you then you can excel to become the great dancer you are.
Take a look at my personal development plan for a clearer idea on the stages to become a professional.
Best wishes,
Odette
