Career Development plan - Starting ballet?: -
I am 15 and I wish to take up ballet for the first time. In my area they don't do ballet, which is why I have never been able to take lessons is this okay to do? I love ballet but I want to know if I am too old to do it...

Hello there,
Thank you for coming to my site, it's great to hear from you.
You are certainly not too old to start ballet and I would definitely recommend you give it a go if possible!
Ballet is very demanding on the body and has a particular technique so you would have to be patient with yourself and let all the new things settle into your body.
It takes years of training for professionals to reach a high standard but it is still great to do as a hobby.
It will definitely benefit your co-ordination, posture, flexibility and your general health and well-being. It's such a beautiful art form so if your longing to give ballet a go so I say go for it, what do do you have to loose?!
However, I understand it must be difficult if they don't do ballet in your area. Perhaps they do other styles of dance nearby? You'll find the enjoyment of dance is rewarded in all sorts of styles - jazz, modern, contemporary... as long as your dancing you can bring that passion out!
Perhaps have a look through the Career Development Plan which will give you a taster of what it takes to become a great dancer.
All the best

Hello,
Thank you for your queries, it's lovely to hear from you.
To become a professional ballet dancer, it does require starting ballet at a young age because you need to use all the time you've got to develop and gradually strengthen on an all round basis.
There are many vocational dance schools around the world that can train young aspiring dancers. At a vocational school students can start training from the early age of 11 right up until they are 18.
You are still young and may find you will absolutely love ballet. Even if you end up doing it just as a hobby as oppose to a career, I say go for it! What do do you have to loose?! We learn from our mistakes, so if it doesn't work out then at least you tried.
All the best
