Career Development Plan - Scared to ask Parents for Ballet Classes
Hello Odette, my name is Claire
I am a 12 year old girl who has taken interest in ballet and becoming a ballerina. The problem is, im scared to ask my parents about it because im afraid they'll think ballet is useless or that ill get bored with it. I really really want to ask them but i dont know what to say to make myself convincing. But if i dont ask them i know i will regret it later. There is a music school that i go to. I have piano and vocals that school teaches ballet too. My mom knows that i like dancing and she even says i am a good dancer, but that ballet class is expensive and i really dont know how to convince my parents that i love ballet. They might say its a waste of money and time. But i really really really want to do ballet. Im really confused. I think my mom will approve more than my dad. Ive been trying to learn basic ballet from youtube but it isnt much help. My workout is ballet based. And i love opening ballet competitions videos online. Im scared my parents might get mad at me and say something like "youre just wasting your time on useless things! You should be studying!!!" What should i do? What should i say? I appreciate your help so much. Please help me.
Regards,
Claire
P.S. sorry if theres lots of typos, i sent this from my phone

To:- Career Development Plan - Scared to ask Parents for Ballet Classes
Hi Claire,
Thank you for contacting me, it's great to hear from you. It sounds like you really, really love to dance. Whether it is just a phase or something that interests you for a short while, it'd be ashamed not to pursue it. I understand ballet classes are expensive, which is why you'd have to be absolutely sure it's what you want to give a go before you think about asking your parents. To me, it sounds like you have done a lot of thinking and you really do have a passion to dance.
As you know, it is your parents who will be the next step to ask for classes and progress forward. They are the ones who support you and will allow you to take classes. It's absolutely great you are researching and looking into ballet yourself, but imagine how much you could progress if you had actual ballet classes.
Try to pluck up the courage to ask your parents, or at least discuss your passion for ballet. If you don't ask, you don't get! Be polite and calm, but explain how you really like to dance and would love to take ballet classes. Tell them you have been practicing as well as researching yourself online, and it's something you would like to give a go.
You've got nothing to loose by asking. Think positive and good luck! Let me know how you get on, keep in touch!
Best wishes,
Odette
