Career Development Plan - To become a Ballet Teacher
Dear Odette
I am 29 years old and have been studying the Royal Acadamy of Dance syllabus now for the last 2-3 years (currently I am studying Inter-foundation grade). I hope to be able to teach ballet in around 5 years. Can you give me any advice on direction and relevant courses which would help me achieve this goal?
kind regards
Lara

To:- Career Development Plan - To become a Ballet Teacher
Hi Lara,
Thanks for your message, it is great to hear from you. You are a first to ask me advice on becoming a ballet teacher, but I am sure together we can find a way to reach that brilliant goal of yours.
I feel somewhat uneducated on this area, as still being a professional dancer myself, I have not been through the process to teach yet. Most of the ballet teachers I knew had been a dancer themselves in one way or another, then made the transition into teaching by studying the courses. I am unsure which exact course it was, but many of them studied with the Royal Academy of Dance.
I know that the Royal Academy of Dance is very well known for their teaching courses. I would definitely follow the courses they have to offer, as you are sure to be in safe hands with them.
You could also talk to other teachers within the RAD, or even at your local dance school, to find out which of the courses they studied and their career path.
In the meantime, I can also get back in touch with some of my previous ballet teachers to see which courses they took.
Please keep in touch and let me know, as I would love to help you progress to your goal and become a ballet teacher.
Best wishes,
Odette
