Career Development Plan - What if I have never done ballet dancing?: -
I'm just a regular 14 year old girl but I have this dream of learning ballet and then pointe shoe. Yet the thing is I've never done ballet and fell like it's too late to start. Part of it is resources while the other half is confidence to ask my parents...i'm so confused how I can maybe start taking a few lessons?? And is it to late to start?? I just don't want to turn out not being able to try ballet because I know that I will regret it for the rest of my life.

Hi Kathleen,
Thank you for coming to me for your questions and queries.
Firstly, if you never try then you'll never know. It sounds if you're longing to give ballet a go so I say go for it, what do do you have to loose?! We learn from our mistakes, so if it doesn't work out then at least you tried.
Don't be hesitant to ask your parents, just tell them how you feel and I'm sure they will support you.
You would start by taking a few lessons, but you have to be aware that ballet is very demanding on the body and has a particular technique so you would have to be patient with yourself and let all the new things settle into your body.
If ballet doesn't work out you can always try jazz, contemporary or modern. There are so many different styles of dance! But if ballet is your passion then trust your heart and follow your dreams.
Perhaps have a look through the Career Development Plan which will give you a taster of what it takes to become a great dancer.
