Remember, just like I did before I went en pointe, ballet students MUST take responsibility for their own strengthening prior to beginning pointe work.
Australian dancer, Lisa Howell has made a video which explains how pre-point strengthening works.
Don't leave it to your teacher!
You can watch this pre-pointe video
yourself here (just wait for the page to load up then the video is on the top right of the page).
Hello Kamila,
Thank you for your query, it is a pleasure to hear from you.
You should feel happy you have now found this new passion, it is great you love ballet now!
For extra guidance to get you prepared for pointe work, the video above is very useful. In this video, Australian dancer, Lisa Howell has made a video which explains how pre-point strengthening works.
I know you must be longing to wear pointe shoes, but do not feel you should rush into pointe work. Beginning to wear ballet pointe shoes depends on many factors such as your age, your level and your strength. Mainly, starting to wear pointe shoes hugely relies on how long you have studied ballet for. It takes time and endurance to build the strength and correct technique for ballet.
It is great you are doing exercises and personal research, this will definitely aid you to starting pointe as soon as possible. And, yes, Bloch are a very sturdy shoe for ballet dancers - great choice!
If you feel as though you are ready for pointe ballet shoes, then assess how long you have studied ballet and how stable you are in your classes. The main person to guide you on starting pointe work is your ballet teacher. Discuss your thoughts with your teacher and explain your curiosity to start pointe work.
It won't affect dancers if they start wearing ballet pointe shoes a bit later than everyone else, but it will affect dancers if they start too early.
All the best,
Odette
